LGBTQ+ Rights

As one of the first openly LGBTQ Tennesseans ever elected to the General Assembly, this fight is personal for me. I believe every person deserves to live and love with dignity, and identity should never be a barrier to respect, healthcare, or opportunity.

Year after year, the supermajority has targeted LGBTQ Tennesseans with bills meant to erase and endanger us. I’ve stood on the House floor against those attacks, and I’ll keep standing.

What I'm Fighting For

  • Fight anti-LGBTQ legislation and strengthen civil rights protections so no one is denied housing, a job, an education, or healthcare because of who they are or who they love.
  • Protect access to medically necessary care, including gender-affirming care, HIV prevention like PrEP and PEP, and mental health services. Memphis carries one of the highest HIV rates in the country, and our people deserve care, not stigma.
  • Protect students from bullying and censorship, and support the educators and policies that reflect the dignity of every young person.
  • Champion fair hiring, support LGBTQ-owned small businesses, and enforce equal pay for equal work.
  • Expand funding for hate crime prevention, reporting, and victim services.
  • Invest in safe public spaces and community programs that support queer youth, elders, and families.
