Housing

Memphis and Shelby County are living through a serious housing crisis. Out-of-state investors are buying up affordable homes across our community, inflating rents, and pushing working- and middle-class families out of the neighborhoods they built.

You deserve a home you can afford. In Nashville, I fight to crack down on predatory practices, help first-time buyers get and keep their homes, and protect renters from abuse.

What I'm Fighting For

  • Invest state dollars in affordable housing through the Tennessee Housing Development Agency and expand down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers.
  • Crack down on corporate and out-of-state landlords buying up single-family homes across Shelby County and squeezing our families out.
  • Protect renters with stronger eviction protections and enforcement against housing discrimination, and roll back the state preemption laws that tie the hands of local governments trying to help.
  • Keep homeowners in their homes. I passed property tax relief for our oldest homeowners (Public Chapter 1063, for homeowners 80 and older), and I’ll keep fighting to expand relief so seniors and working families aren’t taxed out of the homes they’ve lived in for decades.
