Immigration

Memphis has always been made stronger by immigrants and refugees who’ve started businesses, filled our congregations, and enriched every corner of this community. The same American Dream that drew them here should still be within reach, and I refuse to let our neighbors be treated as political props.

We should stop treating immigration as a stage for stunts and start treating it as the legal and humanitarian responsibility it is. At the state level, that means refusing to turn our neighborhoods and our police into arms of a cruel federal enforcement machine.

What I'm Fighting For

  • Oppose the state laws that force our local officers to act as immigration agents and that spread fear through hardworking families.
  • Protect immigrant families and children from state overreach and make sure kids can go to school and see a doctor without fear.
  • Support in-state tuition so Dreamers who grew up here in Tennessee can afford to go to college in the state they call home.
  • Push for a pathway to citizenship — using my voice to press our federal delegation for clear, earned protections for DACA recipients and Dreamers.
