Gun violence has torn through Memphis, and I’ve sat with too many families grieving a child. It is a public health crisis, and we have to treat it like one by investing in prevention, especially the community-based approaches that actually save lives.
In Nashville, I stand up to the gun lobby and fight for common sense reforms, even in a chamber that keeps moving in the wrong direction.
What I'm Fighting For
- Support universal background checks for all gun sales, including private sales and gun shows.
- Pass order-of-protection (“red flag”) laws to keep guns away from people who are a clear danger to themselves or others.
- Repeal permitless carry and keep guns out of schools, hospitals, and government buildings. Oppose the reckless push to arm teachers in our classrooms.
- Fund community violence intervention programs that meet young people where they are and stop the shooting before it starts.
- Require common sense safety measures: waiting periods, safety training, and safe storage.
