As a lifelong student and someone who has built a career in and around education, I believe strong schools are the bedrock of strong communities. Every child should have access to a quality education and a real path to a career, no matter their zip code.
We have to re-center and reinvest in public education so our schools become the engine for stronger communities.
What I'm Fighting For
- Raise teacher pay and strengthen the support systems for paraprofessionals, counselors, and school staff who make learning possible.
- Fully and fairly fund public schools through the TISA formula, and make sure high-poverty and Title I schools get the technology and safe facilities every child deserves.
- Oppose the statewide private school voucher program. Public dollars belong in public classrooms, not in unaccountable private schools.
- Expand pre-K and early learning so every family has access to a strong start.
- Invest in our HBCUs and public colleges, including LeMoyne-Owen College here in Memphis, and expand community college, dual enrollment, and apprenticeship pipelines that connect people to high-wage, high-growth careers.
- Counseling, not criminalization: shift away from over-policing our schools and toward counselors, mental health support, and restorative practices.
